What is Racial Battle Fatigue? Understanding the Mental, Emotional, and Physical Toll of Racism on Black Educators
Racial battle fatigue is not racism itself — it’s the mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion that results from constantly responding to racism. In this video, we explore how racial battle fatigue shows up in the lives of Black educators and Black communities, from crying in the car to panic attacks, insomnia, hypervigilance, and increased isolation. Whether it’s racism at school, in the workplace, or in society, the trauma is real — and it takes a toll.
As DEI initiatives are rolled back and Black and Brown students are disproportionately disciplined or placed in special education, Black educators are expected to carry on, all while experiencing racial harassment, silence, and stress. This video dives into how racial battle fatigue impacts Black teachers — emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
👉 If you're a Black educator, DEI advocate, or someone committed to racial equity in education, this video will help you name the experience and start the healing.
